Compliments Women Love
You may think "You look nice" is a perfectly
sweet compliment to pay a woman. And it is. But it can come across as a
trite line rather than something tailored to her. See, the more specific you get
when you praise a woman, the more she'll eat it up. To better understand what
kind of words will make her day, read on.
Talking to women.
"You look so amazing in that
dress."
You know the tortuously long hour she spent getting ready for some big event?
She did it for you, dum-dum! That's why you have to acknowledge that she looks
even more radiant than usual. "Reassure her that you noticed the effort and
appreciate it by singling out something specific," says psychologist Sheenah
Hankin, PhD, author of Complete Confidence. You can borrow this line: "Your eyes
look awesome when you wear that color."
"I'm impressed with..."
Your girl wants to know she stands apart from the masses. One way to convey that
is by drawing attention to her unique talents. "If she is hilarious, speaks a
few languages fluently, or has a great singing voice, highlight what makes her
different," suggests New York City psychotherapist JoAnn Magdoff, PhD. Not only
does it make her feel special, but it also shows just how well you know her,
which is flattering in and of itself.
"That felt incredible."
The better a woman thinks she is in bed, the more she'll want to get horizontal.
So boost her sexual self-confidence by praising her erotic skills. "Women often
worry about whether they're pleasing their partners," says Hankin. "During sex
or afterward in bed, let her know how good it felt by pointing out how crazy you
are about one of her moves."
"You always know..."
When you come home from a gnarly day of work to find the game's on and she's
whipped up a pizza, tell her, "You always know how to cheer me up." A comment
like that goes much further than "Hey, thanks."
"She likes to hear that she's uniquely adept at
making you fell better," says Magdoff. "It reinforces what a nurturing
girlfriend she is and how lucky you feel to have her."
Is breaking the ice with a
compliment a turn-off?
Not if the compliment is unique (think "striking cheekbone," not "beautiful
eyes") and you sound 100 percent sincere. But what comes out of your mouth
sometimes has a lot less impact than the way you look saying it. One study by
Princeton psychologist Alex Todorov, PhD, found that people often decide whether
someone is attractive and trustworthy one-tenth of a second after laying eyes on
them. My point: If you fit a girl's preconceived notion of a cute, hot, cool, or
interesting-looking guy, you could say just about anything and get a smile in
response. Take a shot.
What To Say to a Woman.
My confidence with the ladies has
been shaky ever since my last girlfriend dumped me. How can I give off a better
vibe?
Start by upgrading your appearance. I
guarantee your female acquaintances will notice your new look and compliment
you. Hearing how good you look will give your ego a spit shine, and that will
make approaching pretty strangers a little easier. Select one of these
overhauls: (1) Take yourself some place warm for a weekend. Come back with a
healthy glow. You'll look better, plus you'll have an interesting travel story
to tell. (2) Start dressing more formally. If you wear khakis, switch to dress
pants and button downs. If you wear dress pants and button-downs, switch to
designer suits. (3) get a cool new pair of specs. (4) Lose 5 to 10 pounds. Your
features will become more pronounced, and you'll look and fell like a born-again
stud.

I wasted 2 hours flirting. Is it
okay to just ask a girl if she's single?
You can, but not right away. Wait a good
10 minutes or so into the conversation, then say something like, "There's no way
you're single, right? If she's interested, a woman will take the question in
stride. If she gets offended, you probably didn't have a chance.
